A calendar of health activities and related announcements
should have its own space or bulletin board within the center.
This will increase health awareness among the seniors, and
should be done in addition to a general activity calendar.
Each month has many things that can be focused on, so the
bulletin board should be updated regularly to keep the seniors
interested and informed about events.
Every week set aside daily discussion groups (prior to lunch
is usually best) for health or nutrition workshops. This time
can also be used to talk with seniors about health problems
they’are currently having or any health related issues
they’are concerned about.
Organize a health and nutrition committee among the seniors
to increase their participation in the planning and organization
of activities. The more they are involved the more they will
stay interested.
Use the resources in this calendar to order materials, like
posters, to promote health awareness year round.
This calendar offers activity suggestions for some of the
monthly highlights, but be creative and use the resources
listed each month to develop more tailored activities.
During menu planning encourage chefs to keep seasonal foods
and those highlighted in this calendar in mind (see recipes
at the end of each month).
If the money is available subscribe to one or more health
and nutrition newsletters to keep up on current topics. A
few are mentioned in the resource index.
